WHEN?
The race will be held on February 19, 2023.
WHERE?
This year, the 6th Annual Marching Chiefs 5K will be held in person with a virtual option! The in person event will be held at Bill Harkins Field, known to some as Chiefs Field.

cost of entry
Entry cost is $35 until January 29th, 2023 at 11:59PM EST. Registration closes on January 30th, 2023. Shirts and race packs will be available in limited sizes so registration is encouraged before the 29th.

Other pickup info: With the race having a virtual option, we have a few options regarding pickups!

For those who are already registered:

1) Pick up your race packet in Tallahassee before the day of the race at no additional cost.
2) Have your race package shipped to your place of residence for an additional charge (to cover shipping and handling fees).

If you would like to change your race entry to include shipping, please contact our Registration Manager whose information is listed on our Contact page.

For those that are planning to register:

1) If you would like to pick up your race packet in Tallahassee, please select the Race Entry option.
2) If you would like your race packet to be shipped to your place of residence, please select the Virtual Race Entry option.

The deadline to purchase a virtual race pack and have it guaranteed to arrive before race day is January 15th, 2023 at 11:59 pm.

This year, the route will begin at Bill Harkins field and extends from Doak Campbell Stadium to Westcott Fountain.

What  is  it?
Created in 2017 to honor past, present, and future Marching Chiefs that proudly carry the legacy of Florida State throughout their lives, the Spring 2023 Marching Chiefs 5K promises to be more outstanding than the last. The race demonstrates what it is like to run as a Marching Chief through the campus of our beloved university.
what  is  it  for?
Presented by Kappa Kappa Psi, a national honorary band fraternity, this 5K is designed to directly benefit Florida State University's College of Music band programs. In fact, all proceeds from the race go to funding improvements for Florida State University's College of Music band programs and the Marching Chiefs.
what  makes  this  race  different  than  other  races?
The atmosphere, tradition, and spirit of one of the best marching bands in the nation. The power of four hundred twenty members dedicated to upholding the Garnet and Gold. Participants will initially set off through our beloved campus, passing by landmarks that have become iconic staples of Florida State tradition and culture. Just as the Marching Chiefs play for our university's athletic teams as they charge onto the field of action, all Marching Chiefs will be there to play, cheer, and volunteer for you, making this an event unlike any other. Feel the power of the Warchant propel you towards the finish line upon the Chiefs' very own practice field as you pass over the fifty yard line. As the Marching Chiefs play for you every step of the way, there is no other event or race like this. For fans of football, marching bands and running alike, this is truly the best race in Tallahassee.
What  precautions  are  being  taken  in  response  to  covid-19?
According to Florida State University and the State of Florida's Covid-19 guidelines, masks are no longer required. Due to our race being completely outdoors, we are not requiring masks to be worn, but do so at your discretion.
is  the  shirt  included  in  my  race  registration?
Yes! However, if you do not register before the January 29th deadline, you will not be guaranteed a shirt on race day.

what  is  the  virtual  race?
The virtual race allows you to support the Marching Chiefs and College of Music from the comfort of your home! Run the route on your treadmill, in your backyard, or around the block. The virtual race pack includes a t-shirt, bib, and medal. All race items will be shipped to your place of residence. The deadline to purchase a virtual race pack and have it guaranteed to arrive before race day is January 15th, 2023 at 11:59 pm.

We guarantee that the virtual pack will arrive by the day of the race if the order is placed by the 15th of January so that you can rep your 5K gear on race day. We encourage virtual runners to tweet, tag, or send pictures of them running the race from home or wearing their race gear on the day of the race. We will offer free registration for next year's race to some of those that participate! More details will be provided on our social media pages.

​will there  be  any  time  to  watch  the  marching  chiefs  perform?
Due to our dedication to FSU Football appearances and related events, the World Renowned Florida State University Marching Chiefs won’t make as many appearances during the spring semester as we did during the fall semester. In addition to the Spring 2023 Marching Chiefs 5K’s pep bands, our main performances during the spring semester are at FSU Football’s Spring Game and Opening Nights’ Spring PRISM concert.

Despite this, the spring semester at FSU is still a time to celebrate many musical activities and events. All ensembles at FSU’s College of Music, including Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, hold multiple performances. Additionally, Seminole Sound, FSU’s athletic band dedicated to performing at basketball, volleyball, and spring sporting events, performs weekly for games and select pep band events. Most of the members of these ensembles are past and present Marching Chiefs!
Can Dogs run the 5K?
Dogs are welcome to the 5K, but only OUTSIDE of the field gates. If you would like to run with your dog, you would have to start and end off field due to a recent upgrade in our turf on Bill Harkins Field. This means not getting timed.
Will  i   be   able  to   receive  a  refund  in the  event  of  rain?
Unfortunately, we are unable to issue any refunds for this fundraising event.
